Hoggs HollowIf you are looking for luxury real estate in a neighbourhood rich in history and secluded from the hustle and bustle of the city than Hoggs Hollow might be the place for you. Located on the intersection of York Mills Road/Wilson Avenue and Yonge Street, Hoggs hollow is one the most affluent areas of the city of Toronto and is definitely unique as it is nestled in the Don River Valley.

Originally the area was home to a successfully run whiskey distillery and grist mill, one of many mills that once operated in the valley, by a scotsman by the name of Joseph Hogg. In 1856 the sons of Joseph Hogg subdivided the estate into one hundred and forty one lots giving it the name of “Hoggs Hollow”. During this time, however, very few homes where built on these lots since the area was most swamp land.

From the 1920s until the 1960s the neighbourhood was more fully developed with roads, better layout and more home. Some of the first homes built where made in the English countryside style. Some of the other styles of houses that can be found here are Georgian, Tudor, Modernist and Colonial.

Until 1998 Hoggs Hollow was part of the City of North York but merged with the city of Toronto along with five other municipalities.

Today the neighbourhood boosts a very healthy real estate market with buyers looking for a luxury home that has a different look and feel compared to what you might normally find in other affluent area of Toronto. There is an idyllic charm to the neighbourhood that gives it a small town look and feel. The absence of sidewalks, large trees and quiet streets are one of the many features that attracts buyers to this community. Overlooking the valley are luxury condominiums as well as townhouses for those who wish to enjoy the area without the maintenance that is required of owning a home.

While Hoggs Hollow real estate may not come on the market as often as other areas the ones that do are often quick to sell. Prices for these properties can range anywhere from $2,000,000 - $7,000,000 and for that money those lucky few who can purchase these homes can enjoy its unique characteristics and be part of its fine history.
